The Argonne forest
In the Argonne area, the thick forest reigns, and geography takes precedence. The Argonne could even be called “the Country where the Tree is King”. In these protected valleys lie picturesque villages, with their half-timbered, cob houses.
Louis XVI arrested at Varennes
The Argonne is steeped in history. Louis XVI was arrested at Varennes-en-Argonne. The battlefields of the First World War are there to visit.
Fishing and faience in the Argonne
To the south, the Valley of the Aire – a paradise of both fishing and faience – runs as far as the Barrois area.
